The Work
To
offset the fluctuations in the Special Makeup Effects industry, FX
Masters has devoted it’s energies to utilizing the knowledge it has
acquired in the motion picture industry for other applications. We now
specialize in private sector and fine arts mould making, mass
production of promotional items, prototyping new products, research
and development, and scenic design. Though we still keep our hands in
the entertainment industry, periodically doing effects on movies, and
commercials, our main staple is bringing very specialized technologies
to the mainstream. Our resources extend beyond our own abilities in so
much as we have acquired an impressive list of sub contractors with
whom we’ve developed lifelong relationships based on mutual respect.
Our
customers have come to rely heavily on our and our associates
knowledge and abilities. When a clothing fit form company had problems
with the multiple vendors it was trying to use to develop a new
product, they came to us. Within three months, not only had we “R &
D”ed the product to a marketable state, we developed a workable in-
house production facility. When the World Famous Hollywood Wax
Museum’s wax artist retired, we were commissioned to make their wax
figures, learning and developing the technology as we went. To date
we’ve made 33
new
figures for the museum, which have met with resounding delight from
their patrons. Speedo wanted a mannequin that they could use to test
their custom Olympic swimsuits in a high-tech flume tank. The
mannequin had to be equipped with a full ballast system to allow it to
be adjusted to neutral buoyancy, had to be disassembled to get the
suit on, and have heavy duty tether attachments. FX Masters developed
one-of-a-kind fiberglass forms to meet their specs, fully tested each
mannequin, and even assisted in dressing the forms.
Saban
decided to do an in-store promotion with Toys R Us, and needed 1000
Power Ranger helmets painted, and an equal number of belt buckles made
and painted. They came to us with a six-week schedule. We came in on
schedule and the promotion was incredibly successful. We had similar
results when Universal Studios wanted 400 kanopic jars for the DVD
release of “The Mummy”. There were 100 Casper figurines for Casper’s
60th Anniversary, 120 oversized mechanical music boxes for the DVD
release of “Anastasia”, roofs for the change kiosks at the Bellagio in
Vegas, paint prototypes for Disney/ Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” theatre
displays, and many, many more.
 Over
the years, either
as FX Masters or pre-FX Masters, we have created everything from a
full size puppeteered rhinoceros for “Maniac McGee”, to a grizzly bear
and porcupine for a Bud Light commercial. There have been
disintegrating vampires, shattering of fices,
rubber laptops, numerous corpses, Super
Dave Osbourne dummies, functional futuristic vehicles for “Solar
Crisis”, and innumerable props for Star Trek Voyager, Stargate, Outer
Limits, etc.
Very little is beyond
our scope of knowledge and accomplishment in as much as we know our
limitations and never hesitate to seek out more specialized associates
when necessary. If, in fact, a job is beyond us, we make every effort
to direct a customer to a more appropriate vendor, at no expense, in
the belief that the customer will some day return to us for another
job. Our client satisfaction rating is presently at 100% and we make
every effort to maintain that.
